Hey, I'm Murphy, and I graduated from The King's School in 2025 with a 99.95 ATAR. I am within the top few ranks in all my subjects, which allowed me to achieve high external HSC marks and a state rank. This year, I’m studying a Bachelor of Commerce/LLB at the University of Sydney on a Chancellor’s scholarship.

I believe in teaching students the methods to unlock state-ranking marks outside of purely content knowledge. As a top performer myself, I have exclusive information and experience about exam techniques, what HSC markers are really looking for, and the most common mistakes that students don’t know that they’re making.

But, I don’t just care about your marks, I care about helping you find motivation for subjects, feel supported every step of the way and balance study with everything else. I have personally balanced tutoring students, co-curriculars and leadership commitments with my own study throughout Year 11 and 12. Meeting with me will not only improve your results, but importantly, help you study more efficiently and make time for other things even during Year 12.

I have collated an extensive set of resources for the subjects I tutor, including quality past practice questions and worksheets. I personally used a lot of these materials to achieve my results.

But, on top of this, you get exclusive access to the resources I personally write every year. You will NOT find these in any trial paper. These mock exams will contain questions I think are likely to show up based upon past trends and include sample responses written by myself so you can see for yourself exactly how I would approach different questions.

📌Study methods schools don’t teach

I know that there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ study method as everyone has their unique habits. But I do believe that, with the right guidance and optimisation, I can give you actionable steps to study more efficiently, motivate yourself during hard times and set reachable goals. Even during Year 12, it is important to make time to enjoy yourself and reward consistent study by doing what you enjoy. You will feel more productive and motivated as a result.

🌟𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗗𝗢 𝗜 𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗛?🌟

My teaching begins by identifying the underlying barriers to a student’s progress and building the strong foundations needed for lasting success. Whilst content is increasingly accessible and well understood, students often miss critical steps in the learning process that go unnoticed until much later. From my experience, these obstacles are especially difficult to self-identify, as they often feel instinctive or habitual. Whether it is writing style, content gaps, study methods or anything else, I start by building a firm foundation.

After that, I will make sure you master the basic skills and concepts. There will be no stone left unturned: I will assign homework, regularly test during class and scrutinise the details until I am sure you fully understand everything.

Finally, application. It’s well-known that grinding past papers for Maths and Sciences is the best way to study, but in my opinion, it is even more crucial for English and Music. Applying your content knowledge to quality HSC style questions written by myself is the best way to improve real exam performance. By emulating exam conditions, question types, giving constant feedback and doing it all again many times, you will feel like the actual assessment is a walk in the park. Seriously, I mean it! By exposing myself to an extensive amount of questions, I felt highly confident walking into exams and you will too.

Throughout high school, I have participated in, adjudicated, and prepared students for a wide array of Debating and Public Speaking competitions. Whilst you can be sure that this has given me communication skills that will ensure you can properly understand difficult topics in lessons, I am one of the most qualified people to help you in similar competitions. If you are looking to make the Senior A debating team, earn a state/national placing at a major public speaking competition or even participate in a Model UN, I have done it before.

My rate is currently $120 per hour for one-on-one tutoring. This will either be online via Zoom (more flexible to your availabilities) or face-to-face at Macquarie/Sydney University on specific days.

For group debating classes, my rate is $80 per hour. These will be online only.
