## My Teaching Philosophy

I believe that great teaching is not about explaining contentβ€”it is about helping students think. While knowledge is essential, lasting academic success comes from developing deep understanding, problem-solving ability, and confidence to approach unfamiliar questions independently. My goal as a tutor is to transform students from passive learners who memorise information into active thinkers who understand why concepts work and can apply them in new situations.

Rather than simply helping students complete homework or prepare for the next test, I aim to build a strong conceptual foundation that allows them to perform consistently across assessments while developing lifelong learning skills.

One of the biggest mistakes students make is trying to memorise information before they understand it. This often leads to frustration because facts become isolated pieces of information that are easily forgotten.

Instead, every lesson begins with developing a clear conceptual framework. I break difficult topics into manageable components and explain the underlying mechanisms that connect ideas together.

For example, instead of asking a biology student to memorise that NSAIDs cause gastric ulcers, I guide them through:

  • prostaglandin physiology
  • cyclooxygenase inhibition
  • gastric mucosal protection
  • acid injury
  • ulcer formation

By understanding the chain of events, students no longer need to memorise disconnected factsβ€”they can reason through unfamiliar questions independently.
